It’s not really all about fashion, it’s rather a style and culture magazine but often features some nice fashion stories. From these precious little editorials with the “dark horses” of the season or the unexpected pieces like this week: Toni Garrn and Edita Vilkeviciute shot by Karl Lagerfeld right after his Chanel Cruise show in Venice. This magazine is simply called L’Express Styles and is just another supplement coming with a french weekly newspaper. Besides a few pages with gorgeous pictures of the kind you would have found in any prestigious fashion-oriented publication, you’ll find a few fresh quotes by Karl about the crisis being a good reason for greedy people to be openly greedy while charity is only great when you don’t talk about it. But his best words are obviously in this quick sentence: “I was a human being too just like you”. It’s our own translation so, we’re sorry in advance for anything that could be slightly wrong. Right in the target, though. Well, if this is so right for Karl himself it’s also true when it comes to models. They were human beings too, before they got caught by all this drama, by this strange job called fashion modeling and, actually, there is no better examples than Edita and Toni, both heavily praised for their “human side”. Our feelings about this are quite vague, though. We should think about the real meaning of human before going too far in any statement and for many people the definition of human remains unclear. And very adjustable to everyone’s own perception and even desires. In the end, no matter who is human and who’s not. Who’s more human than who and who’s less. It’s getting all trivial even when it is highly interesting. As it’s thursday and we might lack of time to dive into a deep discussion, four fantastic pictures will probably do it better than a few more lines.
